Jim and Candy Barr have a wealth of experience in marriage, parenting, foster care, adoption and education to share with willing audiences. Jim and Candy both graduated from Philadelphia Biblical University in 1984. In the early years of their marriage they served on mission fields as diverse as inner city Philadelphia to Maui, Hawaii. They have four children who joined the family by adoption as infants and now range in age from 20 years to 10 years old. In addition, the family has three dogs and two cats.
They currently reside in Cambridge, OH where they are in full time ministry to foster and adoptive families, and the local community, through the House of Samuel, Inc. since 1999. Throughout the 1990's, Jim felt called by God to step out on faith and form an agency committed to operating on Biblical principals. The result is a work in progress that is constantly brought before God for guidance and revision to be responsive to the changing needs of families.
With a sense of humor and passion for Christ, Jim and Candy have a testimony of God's abundant grace and mercy to share with you in a story telling fashion that weaves a portrait of God's faithfulness in a family. From "disappearing cars" to dealing with cancer diagnosis, they will share God's provision. |

Sebastian--- The connection between animals and humans extends back to the Garden of Eden when Adam was put in charge of the animals. In addition, God must have beleived his animal creation was important enough to save as he did so on Noah's Ark.
Sebastian was rescued from a local dog shelter and has become a familiar part of the agecny. Initially we believed he would work with the children however, adults who are struggling with depression and addicitions have asked to have him join their sessions too. |
| One story describes the healing power of animal asssisted therapy. A little girl, age ten, had been brought to our agency and told by her adoptive family that they would not ever take her back home again. Prior to her adoption, she had been horribly abused by her birth family and as a result, she had many behaviors in the home. A few days after that she was so distraught that she was screaming and crying, threatening to kill herself and her adoptive family. No one seemed to be able to offer her any thing that would calm her down. Fianlly, we brought in Sebastian, who immediately went to her, totally unafraid of her demeanor, and she threw her arms around him. Shortly thereafter, she laid on the floor with her arms still around Sebastian and sobbed herself to sleep. She was calm and rational when she woke up. For this child, Sebastian was a key factor in avoiding hospitalization which would have further traumatized this young girl. |

Vivian and Karl Kendall first joined House of Samuel, Inc. in 2003 as treatment foster parents. The staff at HOS, Inc. recognized that this couple had the healing power of God's love and stability to offer to children who were hurt by years of abuse and neglect. The couple later adopted two of the children they fostered. With these adoptions they decided to move out of fostering. Almost instantly, God opened the doors for Vivian to offer her services in the office at House of Samuel. Vivian joined us, on a part-time basis in March of 2007. |
